I've alway been a science buff, so it's no surprise that lasers would interest me. I guess my goal in this project probably stems to a childhood discovery of what a magnifying glass can do (the aforementioned item will from now on be referred to as an 'ant fryer'). And probably from watching "Star Wars" one too many times. My goal is to build the most powerful laser possible, within my budget and ability. If you think small, you will stay small. I'm just not interested in pretty lights, well, unless they can burn a hole in something. Commence primary ignition!

Beginnings
I have to finish up several other projects first, but hope to start on this in early 2011. In the mean time, I can research ideas. I plan to go two routes. First, a solid-state, optically pumped laser using ruby or neodyium glass rods. Second, a gas laser, most likely C02. One good place to go for information is Sam Goldwasser's web site.
